Thomas Cooper Gotch

Overview

Was a British painter associated with the Pre-Raphaelite and later the Symbolist and Aesthetic movements. Born in Kettering, Northamptonshire, he trained at the Slade School of Fine Art and in Paris before settling in Newlyn, Cornwall, where he became a key figure in the Newlyn School. Gotch is best known for his richly colored, idealized depictions of children and allegorical subjects, blending realism with decorative symbolism. His distinctive style and imaginative themes earned him wide recognition, and his works are represented in major British collections.
