Adolf Schreyer

Adolf Schreyer (1828–1899) was a German painter celebrated for his dynamic depictions of horses, battle scenes, and Orientalist subjects. Born in Frankfurt am Main, Schreyer studied at the Städel Institute and traveled extensively through Eastern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. These journeys deeply influenced his art, leading to vivid portrayals of Arab riders, Bedouins, and cavalry in motion. Renowned for his meticulous detail, dramatic light, and energetic brushwork, Schreyer became one of the leading 19th-century painters of equestrian and Orientalist themes. His works were highly sought after in both Europe and America during his lifetime.
