Oyelade Oyewole Tayo (b. 2002) is a rising Nigerian artist whose work delves into the complexities of human identity beyond physical appearance. Currently pursuing a degree in Painting at Yaba College of Technology, he draws from a foundation in Fine Art to create visually arresting pieces that explore emotion, experience, and cultural nuance.
Oyewole’s signature technique involves depicting his subjects as woven materials—a metaphorical approach that binds together threads of emotion, memory, and self-expression. Through this unique visual language, he invites viewers to reflect on the layers that define individual and collective identity.
His work has been exhibited in notable shows such as Illumination in Lagos, Boundaries and Bridges at the Federal Palace Hotel, and One Africa: Contemporary Urban Perspective in Ikoyi. Internationally, his art has been featured in the Risikat Educational Auction and at Honfleur Gallery in Washington, D.C., among others.
A recipient of the Risikat Okedeyi Iyabo Educational Scholarship and a top 25 finalist in the Life in My City Art Festival, Oyewole is gaining recognition both locally and abroad. His practice is rooted in a commitment to celebrating African beauty, challenging conventional norms, and expanding the boundaries of contemporary expression.
