Mariam Olubunmi Aliyu is a visual artist and a Yaba College of Technology student in Lagos, Mariam olubunmi (b.1999) lives in Badagry.
Mariam expresses herself through Burnt papers and photography, She sees burnt papers, prevalent in her works, as a metaphor for her personality. The burnt side shows her dark moments as someone who once escaped a suicide attempt while the unburnt side shows her future. When asked about the significance of the burnt paper, she said “The burnt side makes me appreciate the unburnt side just as death makes people appreciate life!”
Mariam has participated in different exhibitions in Mariam Olubunmi Aliyu and other countries.
In my pursuit of artistry, I channel the complexities of the human experience through burnt papers, exploring themes of body positivity and the transformative power of challenges. My work, a celebration of resilience, seeks to forge a connection between viewer and artwork, inspiring introspection.
